On 13 and 14 November 2026, the hack4GDI_DE – Public Geodata Hackathon will take place at Mainz University of Applied Sciences. The goal of the event? To unlock new application areas for public geodata and showcase their diverse potential!

Students from geoscience-related disciplines are invited to work in teams on challenges in the fields of tourism, transport, and sustainability. The tasks range from the integration and semantic linking of diverse geodata to climate-adapted urban planning and AI-supported applications for intuitive access to geoinformation.

The teams will work with geodata and services provided by the Spatial Data Infrastructure Germany (GDI-DE) as well as additional data sources from public authorities and other institutions. The focus is on open and interoperable data, which participants will use during the two-day event to develop initial solution approaches through to proofs of concept. At the end of the hackathon, the teams will present their results to an expert jury for evaluation. The winning teams will receive prizes, and all participants will be awarded a certificate and a small token of appreciation. The best solutions will subsequently be presented online at www.gdi-de.org.

Participation in the hackathon is free of charge. Free accommodation at Mainz University of Applied Sciences is available.
