SEND Earth Data

Secure Endangered Earth Data (SEND Earth Data) is a German DFG-funded project and develops a coordinated response to the urgent need for resilient Earth System Sciences (ESS) data infrastructures. Building on the established capacities of NFDI4Earth and a consortium of leading German research institutions, the project will establish a strategically embedded chain across climate, ocean, solid Earth, hydrosphere, ecosystems, and biodiversity research to secure at risk datasets, close redund close redundancy gaps in processing, and align national efforts with initiatives such as European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), Research Data Alliance (RDA), American and European Geoscience Unions (AGU, EGU) and related research infrastructures.

Through targeted implementation of high priority rescue use cases, SEND establishes a functioning sustainability network, resilience blueprints for future rescue missions, a legal best practice framework, and a strategic roadmap to support long term data sovereignty and robust scientific data services across the ESS community. Upon completion, SEND will have established a national network for data resilience, firmly anchored within NFDI4Earth and strategically embedded into European and international coordination frameworks.
