Educational Pilot Call
The NFDI4Earth Educational Pilots support the
development of Open Educational Resources (OERs) relevant to the Earth System
Sciences (ESS) community. The OERs should be interdisciplinary and refer to sub-fields
of Earth System Data Science or Earth System Data Management; They should appeal to a broad
range of users from the NFDI4Earth community and address subject areas that are
not well covered with existing OERs yet. Materials on generic research data
management are out of scope for this call.
As a rule of thumb, the EduPilots should
target Master’s students or early Ph.D. students as learners. The materials can be either for self-learning or for re-use by other
instructors. NFDI4Earth provides a total of 25.000€ for this call, to be split
among the successful proposals.
Example outputs include, but are not limited
to:
The funding of the pilots will be according
to the DFG personnel rate and can be used, e.g., for professional media
production or research assistants. The materials do not have to be developed
from scratch, i.e., it is possible to build upon existing course materials and
use the funding to improve them and prepare them for publication as OERs. The
educational materials and a short report (max. four pages) documenting the
developed materials should be submitted by the end of the year 2023.
Application and evaluation process:
a. Relevance to NFDI4Earth
b. State-of-the-art content
c. Novelty (addressing the gaps in existing OERs in ESS)
d. Use of active teaching methods
e. Potential for
integration into NFDI4Earth curricula
We
will send you an acknowledgment within the day to confirm your proposal was
received, and we will direct it to the reviewers. If the submitted pilot
proposal is selected for funding, the applicant agrees that the produced materials will be made available
as Open Educational Resources under a permissive license (Creative Commons or similar).
