Educational Pilot Call

‎3rd Call for NFDI4Earth Educational Pilots

The EduTrain team is thrilled to announce its third call for Educational Pilots, providing funding for the ‎creation of Open Educational Resources (OERs) that are specifically tailored for the Earth System ‎Sciences (ESS) community.‎

We have a strong interest in pushing the boundaries of Earth system science content, particularly in ‎areas that employ advanced analytical techniques such as time series analysis and innovative deep ‎learning methodologies. Furthermore, we warmly welcome and encourage applicants to propose ‎their own unique topics within Earth System Data Science or Earth System Data Management that ‎may be currently overlooked in existing OERs (D1.3.1). Please note that this call excludes generic ‎research data management and open science topics as well as teaching guidelines.‎
Creating Open Educational Resources (OERs) that meet the needs of our core users is of great ‎importance. Our main users are Master's students, early to senior scientists, and professors in the ‎field. As such, the OERs should be suitable for self-learning and reuse by other educators. There's no ‎requirement to‎ ‎develop material from scratch, leveraging and enhancing existing course materials to ‎align them with OER standards is encouraged. ‎

Funding:‎
NFDI4Earth provides a ‎total of 25.000€ for this call, to be split ‎among the successful proposals. ‎The ‎funding will be according to the DFG personnel rate.

Deadline:
Proposals are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year, ensuring that potential contributors ‎have ample opportunity to submit their innovative ideas at any time. The educational materials and a ‎‎concise report (not exceeding four pages)‎ detailing ‎the developed materials should be submitted by ‎the end of ‎‎the year 2024. ‎

Application and evaluation process:‎

  1. Relevance to NFDI4Earth ‎
  2. State-of-the-art content ‎
  3. Novelty (addressing the gaps in existing OERs in ESS)
  4. Use of active teaching methods ‎
  5. Potential for integration into NFDI4Earth curricula

We will send you an acknowledgment within the day to confirm your proposal was ‎received, and we ‎will direct it to the reviewers. If the submitted pilot proposal is ‎selected for funding, the applicant ‎agrees that the produced materials will be ‎made available as Open Educational Resources under a ‎permissive ‎license (Creative Commons or similar).‎

Support and Consultation:‎
If you have any questions, need clarity, or would like some guidance about the call or your proposal, ‎please don't hesitate to contact Farzaneh Sadeghi. We're here to assist and ensure that your ‎submission aligns perfectly with our objectives.‎
